Bold color within an otherwise modern & minimalist design at Arrowhead Hill

There was much to love about Daniela & Jaime’s spring wedding at Arrowhead Hill, nestled in Montgomery, TX. I think what I loved most about this planning process was that we started with design inspiration that was primarily rooted in a black & white color palette. Think white roses and baby’s breath in organic shapes with a minimalist approach overall. That would have been a pretty design, no doubt, but somewhere throughout the planning process, the bride found joy in the bold, colorful imagery she was finding on social media. So we said “hey — why not incorporate both?.” The design you see here was born out of an assumption that there are no rules, and instead, there was way more fun to be had in approaching each decision with intention and whimsy. The planning process was about the journey, not only the destination, and the finished result was one of my favorites yet!
Balancing color with a monochromatic scheme was the name of the game for Daniela & Jaime’s big day. While most of the images I’ve shared are full of bold color, many of the elements of this event featured black and white elements. We kept the linens neutral (but not boring!) focusing on incorporating texture and dimension, rather than color. The paper goods also leaned into the minimalist aesthetic, featuring a blind emboss letterpress, modern typography, and plenty of negative space. The reception design featured a mix of long and round tables, most of which featured baby’s breath and white garden roses, all with an organic, sculptural shape to their design. And we can’t forget about the statement broken arch in the ceremony space that doubled as a focal point to frame the cake.
But when it comes to our favorite design details of the day, I can’t help but focus on the color! The bridal bouquet was full of bold, rich hues which were reflected in the assortment of color in the bridesmaids dresses. The head table was the only table featuring color, and boy, did it pack a punch! The ombre runner of peach, orange, purple, and yellow tones was floral and fruit heavy and made a major statement (not to mention, it didn’t have a bad angle! I couldn’t stop taking photos of it, and you can see how Lauren Leigh Whicker beautifully captured it here.)
But I think some of the best details were in the decisions that fully reflected Daniela & Jaime’s love story, as well as the ones that honored their respective cultures. The paper goods featured milestone days in their relationship. Days that the groom took note of starting from their very first date, Day 1: a trip to Ikea, and culminating on Day 3436: the day they wed. The entertainment choices paid homage to their cultures, featuring a mariachi band during cocktail hour, and a live drumming group during the last hour of the night. Daniela & Jaime honored their guests with an incredible experience just as much as they celebrated their love and this milestone occasion in their lives, which resulted in a meaningful event for all.
